Growing up, I struggled with being overweight, as a result of poor eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle. This weak foundation for health carried over into my young adult years; pressure to lose weight and fit a certain body ideal led me to seek out restrictive eating patterns mixed with binge eating. Towards the end of Medical School, I realized that I was not being kind to my own body with the lifestyle that I was leading (Did I really think that losing weight by walking around all day and eating only a snickers bar was healthy?!?).
Around the same time, I got a real wake up call, when family members were diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and Premature Heart Disease - conditions for which being overweight and inactive are risk factors. I embarked upon a journey of discovering how to eat healthy, and made it my mission to find ways to be more physically active. By my mid 20's, I was at a healthier weight than I was in my teens. This quest to be my healthiest self has taken me through the past two decades.
I take practicing medicine and my HHNFL podcast seriously, but here are a few of my favorite things to do during my 'off hours.'
I love coffee AND tea -among my favorites are Starbucks Pike Place Roast and Numi Gunpowder Matcha Green Tea.
Traveling to new cities and exploring - the food, the stores, the "must see" attractions and the lesser known - is fun and relaxing.
I live for spending time with my husband and kids.
Reality TV has my heart... Anyone else love to watch Real Housewives - or pretty much any Bravo TV show?
I have a passion for cooking and experimenting with new recipes (especially if there are healthy swaps!) when I have time.
There is nothing better than a good workout! Whether it's a walk in the neighborhood, workout video, or weight training.
